Artichoke is part of a series of flower prints made by Royds where she developed her woodcut technique through a bold use of colour, inspired by Japanese woodcuts.
British artist Mabel Royds, studied in the UK, moved to Paris and later to Toronto. She returned to the UK and began teaching at Edinburgh School of Art, working alongside S.J. People. The focus of her work was everyday life things and scenes.
