James Hutton: The founder of modern geology (paperback)
Third edition of this popular book on the life, times and great works of Dr James Hutton (1726-1797) - geologist extraordinaire, by Donald B McIntyre and Alan McKirdy.
Considered one of the first environmentalists, an innovative farmer, successful entrepreneur, and a leading figure of his time, Hutton developed a theory about the ‘continuity of Nature’s operations’, after a lifetime of observation about the way our planet functions and how the Earth is shaped by processes of erosion and denudation as a work in progress.
This is a revised and expanded edition of the book by Donald B McIntyre and Alan McKirdy, first published in 1997 and revised in 2012. This third edition has been rewritten with twice as many pages as the 2012 edition and almost double the number of illustrations.
Author Alan McKirdy, former Head of Knowledge and Information Management at Scottish Natural Heritage, he has written, and contributed to, a number of books on geology and related topics.
