£12.95 £0.60

The first monograph on British artist Carol Rhodes’s work, this volume contains two illuminating essays – one by the renowned art critic Tom Lubbock and the other by artist and writer Merlin James. Over thirty works are illustrated, charting Rhodes’s development from the early 1990s.

British artist Carol Rhodes, was born in Edinburgh in 1959, has gained increasing recognition since the 1990s. Her paintings depict a semi-fictional geography depopulated yet shaped by the human activities of industry, habitation, forestry, landscaping, transport and quarrying. These small, psychologically charged works are at once densely representational and powerfully abstract, engaging with the nature of perception, recognition, and depiction.
