A vibrant, colourful and beautiful book that introduces readers to Impressionism and Post-Impressionism and to some of the earliest Scottish collectors to buy modern French art.

Published to accompany the exhibition A Taste for Impressionism: Modern French Art from Millet to Matisse, on show at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh from 30 July - 13 November 2022.

Illustrations are drawn from the renowned and outstanding collection held by the National Galleries of Scotland, and include several rarely seen works.

The book tells the fascinating story of how major works such as Monet's Poplars on the Epte, Gauguin's Vision of the Sermon and Van Gogh's Olive Trees found their way into the collection. It also provides an enjoyable introduction to the art of the Impressionists, the Post-Impressionists and their precursors, written by one of the foremost experts in the field.

Artists include Boudin, Corot, Millet, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Rodin, Cézanne, Gauguin,  Seurat, Van Gogh, Vuillard, Bonnard, Derain and Matisse.

She has published widely on nineteenth-century art, collecting and the art market. Her most recent NGS publication was the highly successful Pin-Ups: Toulouse Lautrec & the Art of Celebrity (2018)
