A Creative Act considers the historic removal of sculptural fragments from the Parthenon in Athens and their subsequent custodianship by the British Museum in London. Using my own photographs and vintage tourist postcards, I used digital techniques to overlay scenes from the Acropolis over the sculptures in the British Museum. My intention was to highlight their displacement, and raise a question around the ethics of their original extraction and ‘ownership’ by the British government. This discussion relates to wider debates around the restitution of historical artefacts.
