In Silent Night

Grant McGregor (Gallery Shift Attendant)

Charcoal drawing on wooden panel

I am influenced by the stories of my family and the struggles they have experienced. As such, my works often deal with extremely sensitive, personal matters.
My portraits question the concept of modern-day identity using elements such as light, tone and shape. I cut away the figure until the nearest glimpse of humanity remains. What is left intends to captivate the viewer’s subconscious as they find a familiarity in what they see. This gives my work a narrative that goes beyond what is seen.
