It’s not my Cat

Emma Griffin (Gallery Attendant)

Oil on Canvas

The subject of this work comes from my daily observations. Walking to work through the New Town of Edinburgh, I often see large windows adorned with a cat or flowers sat in intricately detailed patterned vases. The reflection of the trees on the windows adds an extra visual element. I begin by drawing out the composition on the canvas with a charcoal pencil and then introduce oil paint in thin washes. Slowly, I build up the layers in the background and remove paint with a dry brush to mark out the details.
