Bonus text
These marionettes are a very early example of Harryhausen's creative responses to the films and fantasy books that he was consuming at the time. Harryhausen’s love of Kong and of dinosaurs is perfectly evident in these early creations. They also reveal obsessions that would surface again in later films such as the skeletons that first appear in the 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) and return again for the iconic scene in Jason and the Argonauts (1963). Ray’s model-making talents came in handy while at school, in constructing puppets for a Halloween play in English class.
