Fay Wray & Marie Wilson collage (about 1933)

Ray Harryhausen

Collage on paper

Label text
Harryhausen made this collage featuring actors Marie Wilson (1916-1972) and Fay Wray (1907-2004). Wray was famous for her work in horror films and starred as Ann Darrow in King Kong. Her character became one of the most iconic in film history. At the end of King Kong, Carl Denham utters the famous line: ‘It was beauty killed the beast’, referring to Ann. She is presented as a ‘damsel in distress’ to be saved by the male characters - a recurring theme in cinema, still prevalent today.
