Story
March 2020 - Through An Open Window

Birds singing. No cars, no planes, just birds.

Where once I saw a liner eclipse the campanile of St Marks, now swim dolphins. Where I sipped spritz while teenagers spun powerboats off Sant’ Elena, now you can watch mullet instead.

Here, hotels are taking in the homeless, and Airbnbs I’ve been protesting are up for sale.

On the other side, will the formerly homeless be homeless once more?

Will I be able to fly to Venice for £28.99?

Will the birds still sing? Will I trade it all for an Airbnb and aperitivo under the stone pines in Sant’ Elena?

Vision
Where cruise liners once
Stirred-up silt and resentment
Swim shoals of mullet -
Dolphins echo-locate prey
Clear waters even the odds
