Pamela Kennedy, Volunteer (Education) for 9 months

'I graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in Textile Design (Print) and have worked as a print colourist for Laura Ashley, as a freelance designer for Timney Fowler, and as a childrenswear designer for Babygro. Most recently I’ve worked in Edinburgh schools coaching tennis and badminton.

'After a long break I have returned to evening classes in art. My particular interest is in figure study and portraiture (studying facial characteristics and capturing the mood of the model). I like working in pastels, charcoal and acrylics and admire the work of Amedeo Modigliani and Stanley Spencer.

As a volunteer for the National Galleries of Scotland, I particularly enjoy working with visually impaired visitors, Deaf visitors, visitors with hearing loss, and visitors affected by dementia. These people greatly value the opportunity to access art through workshops and exhibitions. Art is for people to enjoy, think about, and discuss - it has many therapeutic advantages. These workshops are a lifeline for many people.'
