Claire Gibson, Project & Systems Assistant Accountant for 3 years

'I have zero background in art. My degree was in Accounting & Finance. Before working for the National Galleries of Scotland I hadn’t even stepped foot inside the Scottish National Gallery, or thought about art since my 2nd year at secondary school. One morning I participated in a Sketching for Staff session and managed to ‘successfully’ sketch Marino Marini’s sculpture of Pomona. Since then I have acquired some art materials and try and tap into my creative side every now and again.

I wouldn’t have even thought about drawing/painting ever again had I not started working for the Galleries. But working in this environment, being taken through exhibitions by curators, seeing different styles, different mediums and how versatile art can be has made me curious and brave.

I enjoy the variety of working here. No day is ever the same, people are all lovely. The passion and enthusiasm of curators for their exhibitions can be quite contagious.'
