Portrait of the Venetian Artist StAm, 2017

Laura Nardo, Gallery Attendant for 6 months

'I am from Italy and I studied Painting at the University of Fine Arts in Venice. My passion for art led me to look for a job linked to my background. When the opportunity came, I applied to the National Galleries of Scotland to stay connected with an art environment which continually inspires me.

I love painting and delving into different topics. My favourite subjects are portraits and still-life. Oil on canvas is my favourite media. I think that every portrait
represents an intimate bridge between the sitter and the artist. StAm is a ‘double’ bridge because he is also an artist, a point of reference and a day-to-day stimulus for me. I wanted to capture his concentrated expression in one of his moments of creativity.

Working for the Galleries with interesting colleagues and all the surrounding artworks stimulates me, gives new challenges and improves my art practice.'
