Two Human Beings, The Lonely Ones

Edvard Munch

Despite standing side by side, the couple in this work appear isolated against the landscape. As with other prints, Munch used a fretsaw to divide the woodblock to create the image in order to treat elements individually. The figure of the woman has been entirely separated from other areas of the image, adding to the sense of remoteness between the man and woman in the scene.
