Claude Monet’s A Seascape, Shipping by Moonlight is the latest National Galleries of Scotland ‘Masterpiece’ loan to Duff House. The painting was selected for display by a public vote on Twitter, in early 2019. Visitors will be able to see Monet’s masterpiece on show in the Marble Lobby until Sunday 22nd March.
Claude Monet (1840 - 1926) is referred to as the “Father of Impressionism”. He painted this relatively early work in 1864. Ten years before the landmark first Impressionist exhibition in Paris. The dramatically lit moonlit scene shows the harbour at Honfleur, close to the artist’s childhood home of Le Havre, on the Normandy coast.
