This display will focus on the work of artists who explore themes of place, through direct engagement with their enviroment, imaginative responses to locations and landscapes. Richard Long and Hamish Fulton are well known for documenting their work in book form, mapping walks and interventions in the landscape; Charles Avery has invented an entire archipelago, complete with strange creatures and its own mythology; Oskar Kokoschka's sketchbooks form a charming record of a brief sojourn in Scotland.
