Fresh Produce explores the ways in which cartography and mark making have been used to map personal geographies, space and time.
Maps help us to navigate the world around us, establish systems of understanding, and illustrate ideas or journeys. Maps rely on visual language to transfer knowledge, ideas, and stories, between people.
The installation includes recordings and hand-drawn maps by gardener Wendy Mount, of the kitchen garden, orchard and flower beds situated at the back of Modern One. Wendy was instrumental in the original design of the kitchen gardens and is responsible for their ongoing maintenance. These gardens supply the Gallery Café with much of their seasonal produce.
As part of this installation, we invite you to make a map of your own. It can depict a journey or a space; real or imagined.
