Richard Long | Being in the Moment marks the first collaboration between ARTIST ROOMS and the Thelma Hulbert Gallery to bring the work of the renowned British sculptor and land artist to the town of Honiton in Devon.
Richard Long (b. 1945) is recognised as one of the most influential artists of our time. This exhibition features work that spans 40 years of Long’s career from 1966 to 2006, starting with early experiments in the south west of England. Here began a life-long investigation into landscape as both space and material, taking Long to remote locations across the world.
From photography, maps, and texts, to mark making and sculpture, this exhibition captures Long’s varied approach to working with and within nature.
The exhibition is accompanied by an ambitious learning and events programme marking the beginning of Thelma Hulbert Gallery’s Culture and Climate 2020 Programme, in response to Devon’s climate change emergency declaration. The programme will see the gallery deliver a series of ambitious exhibitions, projects and public programmes taking place in locations across East Devon that discuss and explore this pertinent issue with local audiences.
The ARTIST ROOMS touring programme is delivered by the National Galleries of Scotland and Tate in a partnership with Ferens Art Gallery through 2020, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, by Art Fund and by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
