About
In this illustrated lecture Professor Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw will take Titian’s Diana and Actaeon as a starting point to examine some of the challenges and opportunities that dark skin and Black bodies have presented to White artists, from the Renaissance through to the present day. In addition to considering Titian’s famous poésie, it will engage work by Winslow Homer, John Sloan, Andrew Wyeth, and Robert Arneson.
