In this talk entitled White House/ White Cube: Portraits, Paintings, and the American Presidency, Dr Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw (Director of History, National Portrait Gallery, Washington DC) will examine art that has been associated with the Presidency of the United States and the White House. It focuses on issues of race, class, and gender, and the politics of identity and representation in a contemporary moment characterized by the death of the post-racial American fantasy.
