Shadows of their Former Selves: Scottish Silhouette Portraits

  • Tuesday 20 August, 12:45-1:15pm

About

The speed and low cost of producing silhouettes made them affordable to more levels of society than any other type of portraiture before photography, and the authors of silhouettes ranged from amateurs to specialist professionals. This talk will shine a light on the illustrious, the obscure and the scandalous sitters of these intriguing portraits as curator Liz Louis explores the rich history of silhouettes in the 18th and 19th centuries.
