The Supreme Deluxe Essential Monster Chetwynd Handbook launch
Sat 6 Apr 2019
3:30 - 4:30pm
The National Galleries of Scotland have commissioned the performance Prolific Potato by Monster Chetwynd, whose work is at the centre of the current NOW exhibition. The performance will be followed by the launch of her latest publication, The Supreme Deluxe Essential Monster Chetwynd Handbook, published by Edition Patrick Frey.
Inspired by the National Galleries of Scotland’s holdings of the work of Eduardo Paolozzi, Prolific Potato will recount elements of his life by way of puppets and performers, in a gallery space dissected by structures made of cloth, paper and plumbing pipe. A giant puppet, showing the transition between a man and a potato, will loom down over the audience. Music, dance, hand-made costumes and props will combine with audience participation to climax in a surging, continuous flow of productivity and recycled appropriation from the reconstruction of Paolozzi’s studio in Modern Two.
Join us after the performance for a glass of wine to celebrate the launch of Monster's new book published by Edition Patrick Frey. The 800-page, lavishly illustrated Handbook is Chetwynd’s most ambitious to date and graphically retraces her creative years from 2007 to 2018. Monster will be signing books and you can get 10%* off in the shop on the day of the event. Every customer who purchases a book at the launch on Saturday 6 April, will receive a goody bag** too.
