An Interior with a Young Violinist

Online talk Joining details available via the Friends newsletter
  • Thursday 3 June 2021

Gerrit Dou, Rembrandt’s first pupil, became the founding father of the so-called Leiden School of Fine Painters, and one of the most successful painters of 17th-century Holland. Examining Dou’s earliest signed and dated work, An Interior with a Young Violinist, Tico Seifert, Senior Curator of European & Scottish Art & Portraiture, will explain a number of changes to the composition. Remarkable details – the panel is only 30cm high – include the book on the table, which can be identified and offers a new interpretation of this little jewel in the Galleries’ collection.

This talk will be available from Thursday 3 June via our Friends email newsletter. It is part of a new series of exclusive online talks providing our Friends events programme in a different format. There will be two per month, with each remaining available for two weeks so you can choose when you would like to watch them.

No booking or advance registration is required in order to view these free Friends-only talks. The links to view them will be sent out each fortnight as part of our email newsletter. If you have a Friends membership but do not currently receive our Friends email newsletter, please contact [email protected] to sign up.
