About

The Drawing Room explores the range of possibilities within contemporary drawing practice. Artist Kirsty Lorenz has devised a session titled Votive Offering (flower posy). The word posy originates from the word poetry. In this session you will create a small flower posy very much like a haiku emphasising composition, structure and meaning. We will carefully place a small number of flowers, grasses, seed heads or leaves together and tie with a blade of grass, piece of string or ribbon. We will draw our posy (and its shadow), dropping in a little colour if we want to.

You will need:

  • 7 – 10 flowers, seed heads, leaves, grasses etc this gives a few things to choose from. These can be wildflowers or cultivated (be aware that wildflowers sometimes wilt quickly)
  • Flexible blades of grass, string or ribbon to tie with
  • A pair of scissors
  • HB pencil and rubber
  • Dipping pen and ink, or fine line drawing pen
  • Water and brush
  • Watercolours or coloured pencils if you have them
  • Two sheets of drawing paper, big enough to match the size of your posy (Kirsty will be working on A4 with wildflowers and grasses)

This session is for adults and is suitable for ages 12+

A Zoom link will be sent to ticket holders.
