In this lecture, Professor Michael Clarke, former director, Scottish National Gallery will examine the twin loves of Alexander and Rosalind Maitland - art and music. In their Edinburgh home in Heriot Row they built up their outstanding collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings that would be gifted (1960) and bequeathed (1965) to the National Galleries of Scotland. Passionate lovers of classical music, they also played host to some of the twentieth century’s greatest musicians.
