Books in Focus: Witchcraft

  • Thursday 3 October, 11:30am-12:30pm ; repeated Saturday 5 October, 2:30-3:30pm

Tickets available Monday 9 September

Our series of ‘Books in Focus’ sessions focuses on artists’ books and archive material held in the special collections of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. This session will examine works on paper and archival material with occult themes, as well as rare books on witchcraft from the Keiller and Penrose libraries. From Albrecht Dürer’s Four Witches and the infamous text Malleus Maleficarum, to art of the last century, we will be discussing the links between the rising interest in witchcraft and the occult after the first world war, and the subsequent effect this had on the surrealist movement.

Limited places.
