About

Explore 500 years of Edinburgh's links with Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. Hear stories of courtiers, entertainers and servants, freemasons, freedom fighters and military men, artists, teachers and so much more. Led by historian, Lisa Williams, Edinburgh Caribbean Association.

Please come dressed for the weather, and be ready and able to walk at a reasonable pace. The tour will be about two miles of walking and is generally appropriate for all ages and fitness levels, but please use your best judgment. The tour will go on rain or shine. However, in cases of severely inclement weather on the day of the tour, the tour will remain in the gallery. We recommend booking to avoid disappointment as spaces are limited to 15 places.

This is a linear walk which starts at the Portrait Gallery and finishes at Scottish National Gallery.

We provide a sensory map of the building to help visitors identify areas with changes in light, smells and noise. It locates seating areas and less crowded, quieter spaces. Printed copies are available from the front desk at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
