About

Remembering war is difficult. How does an artist create a war memorial that is both original in design and eye-catching, yet dignifed? How best can one commemorate war in a painting, on a page, or through other media? And how should an artist deal with sacrifice in past conflicts, which later generations wish to commemorate? Dr Patricia Andrew, an authority on Scottish war art, looks at how artists have sought to create novel yet appropriate commemorations through the centuries to the present day.
