We welcome award-winning Scottish author and screenwriter Ewan Morrison for a fascinating talk and book-signing event to celebrate the launch of his new book NINA X, published by Fleet on 4 April 2019.
Morrison will talk about Chairman Mao Zhedong and discuss how Maoism secretly shaped postmodernism and contemporary art. Andy Warhol’s Mao portrait, which is in the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland, is an early example of this and will be displayed in the Great Hall during the event. The portrait is currently featured as part of the ongoing Andy Warhol & Eduardo Paolozzi | I want to be a machine exhibition at Modern Two until 2 June 2019.
Morrison will also read excerpts from NINA X. Nina X has never experienced the outside world as she is held indoors; she has never met another child and is raised entirely ostracised from capitalism and the cult of the self. Comrade Chen has named her The Project. A signed copy of NINA X (RRP £14.99) can be pre-ordered now at a special price of £12.74 (15% discount) from our online shop, and collected at the event.
Join us afterwards for a complimentary glass of wine, and questions for Morrison who will be signing copies of his book NINA X which can be purchased from our shop. Customers can receive 15%* off in our shop and goody bags** are on offer for those spending over £30 in one transaction.
Morrison’s talk also coincides with the hanging of his own 1989 artwork Self-portrait, which was gifted by him to the National Galleries of Scotland in 2015. The photographic portrait will be on display from the end of March until 27 October 2019 as part of the exhibition at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery titled The Modern Portrait.
