Summer Fields by Joan Eardley (100 cm) stretched canvas
100 x 97 cm stretched canvas print of Summer Fields by Joan Eardley from the National Galleries of Scotland Collection. Printed in a finely textured artist-grade cotton substrate at 400gsm which consistently reproduces image details with outstanding clarity and detail.
This vibrant artwork was painted outdoors near Catterline, the small fishing village south of Aberdeen where Eardley spent much of her time from the 1950s. She has heightened the sense of realism in ‘Summer Fields’ by adding grass, picked as she worked, to its surface. The land and seascape around Catterline inspired many of Eardley’s most memorable works, some of which verge on abstraction. Her expressive use of paint and warm colours combined with deep shadows evokes the summer sun on a golden crop.
Joan Eardley was an English artist but spent most of her adult life as an artist in Glasgow and then Catterline. Her preference was for everyday subjects such as children or the sea and coastline.
