Pride 2023

To celebrate Pride month we are spotlighting the vibrant and diverse LGBTQ+ community. Throughout the month of June we will be sharing works of art that showcase love, equality, and acceptance.

Uncover the stories of the Lavender Menace Bookshop whose story began in the cloakroom of Fire Island gay disco on Princes Street, Edinburgh. Discover the work of Anton Prinner a good friend of Picasso who called him ‘Monsieur Madame’ and described him as ‘the small man who makes large statues.’

Explore the stunning blueprints in Blue Book of Conversation by the mischievous British surrealist John Banting. Delve into our archive to uncover intimate stories of Scottish artists Robert MacBryde, Robert Colquhoun and Joan Eardley.

And look forward to the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2022, on show at the Portrait from Saturday 17 June. Where you can find sensitive and nuanced portraits of young people navigating the ambiguities of friendship, sexuality, and explore what it means to be queer in Chinese society.

Featuring blueprints to photographs each week on our social channels we will reveal the many stories within our collection.
