Talks & Lectures | Queer Lives & Art: 40 Years of Lavender Menace

In August 2022, to celebrate the 40th anniversary year of Lavender Menace we invited founders Sigrid Nielsen and Bob Orr to be part of a panel discussion looking at its history. Lavender Menace opened in Edinburgh in 1982 and was Scotland’s first LGBT bookshop. It is now a queer events space and archive.

Sigrid and Bob were joined by illustrator and writer Kate Charlesworth who has produced a series of portraits of queer writers for the anniversary, including bisexual Scottish poet Hamish Henderson (1919–2002). The discussion will be chaired by Lucy Armitage, Daskalopoulos digital producer, National Galleries of Scotland.

This talk was originally broadcast live and is followed by responses to audience questions.
