Monster Chetwynd | Prolific Potato

We are thrilled to present online for the first time this performance by artist Monster Chetwynd, which was commissioned for the NOW IV exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

Monster’s work was at the centre of this exhibition in 2018-2019 alongside the work of Henry Coombes, Moyna Flannigan, Betye Saar and Wael Shawky.

Inspired by the National Galleries of Scotland’s holdings of the work of Eduardo PaolozziProlific Potato recounted elements of his life by way of puppets and performers, in a gallery space dissected by structures made of cloth, paper and plumbing pipe. A giant puppet, showing the transition between a man and a potato, loomed down over the audience. Music, dance, hand-made costumes and props combined with audience participation to climax in a surging, continuous flow of productivity and recycled appropriation from the reconstruction of Paolozzi’s studio in Modern Two.
