Linocut print

Stairs to the Castle is a four colour linocut print, hand-printed using CMYK to achieve a photorealistic image of Edinburgh Castle as seen from the Grassmarket. The print is based on the artist's own photographs of the area, which were digitally separated into layers of cyan (blue), magenta (pink), yellow and black (CMYK), carved in separate layers onto separate linoleum blocks and printed in this sequence. This process gradually builds up the details and allows for the inks to optically mix on the paper, creating a range of colours.
