Small Blue Thing

As a member of Leith Lapidary Club, I’ve been making silver jewellery for several years. This year I have been exploring how to incorporate waste plastic and found objects into my work. This piece recycles materials found on the beach, glass beads from Ghana, dyed sari fabric and sterling silver. I am drawn to the colour blue and this necklace was inspired by the ever-changing colours of the sea and sky, and the song Small Blue Thing by Suzanne Vega. I am fascinated by how materials change as they weather and decay, and how they can be repurposed.
