Tempera, acrylics, loose pigments and cellulose gum on paper.
My work is based on a cold palette of violent intensity. It relies on a sense of liberation in the images, and on the vehemence of their realisation. They emerge through a drastic structuring and a simplification of design that finds expression through an ordering. These works are normally open-ended and need to evolve constantly over time. I usually work on large scale and on canvas. For this exhibition I am presenting a pair of smaller scale paintings on paper – mixed media and pigments – made as a preparatory work for a large scale piece.
