Mankala after lunch

Ana Elez Rodrigo (Gallery Attendant)

Mixed media drawing

I studied illustration at Edinburgh College and graduated in 2016 when I started working at the National Galleries of Scotland. I have been training as a Hatha yoga teacher and developing my watercolour drawings and other art techniques. The Mancala is one of the oldest known games that is still widely played today. Versions of the game date back to the 7th century and there is evidence of it existing in Ancient Egypt. It's a strategic game – the playing pieces can be seeds, beans, stones, cowry shells or half marbles.
