Cyanotype

I have a long-standing interest in lo-fi and cameraless photography. It seemed a natural progression to explore the processes of photograms, lumen printing, anthotypes and cyanotypes. I’m focused on the study and abstraction of found objects, inspired by artists such as Paul Kenny and László Moholy-Nagy. This image is one of a series of cyanotypes, created by placing cuttings of bronze fennel on chemical-coated watercolour paper and exposing them to ultraviolet light. The positioning of the ultraviolet light source and cuttings can result in prints with varying degrees of abstraction, through which I am exploring themes of permanence, transition, and decay.
