Surface is the first piece in a new body of work, where I removed the figure from recognisable domestic and architectural interior spaces. I produce figurative work exploring heightened emotional and psychological tensions, devoid of an obvious narrative. I create a superficial surface through strong light and colour. This visual conflict suggests how external representation can conceal underlying emotions such as isolation, loneliness and connection.
