Me and My Dog

Scottish Borders

Story
Together we walked out daily towards Harlawmuir at the foot of the Pentland Hills – days of blue skies where the sun held a bright heat and the cotton grass bloomed like never before. Curlews warbled, oystercatchers kleeped, skylarks sang their arias and swallows returned to dazzle us with their joyous flight. As coronavirus statistics spiralled in the wrong direction, nature became my daily solace. It took away my sadness and filled my heart with gladness (Van Morrison) if only for a short while. For that I was grateful – even more so for Tino, my constant canine companion.

Vision
I hope nature and wildlife become more important to more people – and that more people discover the mental health benefits of stepping out into green spaces.
