Witches & Wicked Bodies
Featuring prints and drawings by artists including Albrecht Durer, Francisco de Goya, Eugene Delacroix and William Blake, Witches and Wicked Bodies provided an innovative, rich survey of images of European witchcraft from the fifteenth century up to the present day.
Major works loaned from the British Museum, National Gallery, Tate and the V&A; alongside works from National Galleries Scotland’s own collection investigated the ways in which witches have been represented in Europe, focusing on the representation of women and the enduring stereotypes they embody, from hideous crones to beautiful young seductresses, which have been repeatedly reinvented by artists over the centuries.
