Visual and performing artist, photographer and blogger Sarah from @strikesofluck takes a look at the beauty of the Galleries home in Edinburgh. 

Edinburgh’s charm is around every corner and on every cobblestone. Such a magnetic city full of art and culture. 

Every day is a new latte opportunity. En route, I love a filter coffee or mocha. One of my favourite views is right next to Waverley Station. I ascend to Princes Street and then walk past the magnificent Balmoral Hotel towards a popular photo spot on top of the Waverley Mall. From here the city skyline is breathtaking.

In the foreground of this great view are the Scottish National Gallery and the Royal Scottish Academy - two sets of neo-classical columns ready to welcome me with open arms!

Upon arrival at the Scottish National Gallery, I pick up a map brochure near the entrance, both for a navigational tool and a future keepsake. Now I'm ready for more beautiful views - of the painted variety!

The visual appeal of the rooms is magical. Each one simultaneously draws you in to the pieces on display. The details are also exquisite, from the different couches for observation to the frames encasing the artistic masterpieces.

Between the stunning Poplars on the Epte by Claude Monet or the famous Reverend Robert Walker Skating on Duddingston Loch by Scotland’s own Sir Henry Raeburn, the immensity and variety of the collection is astounding.

If you're looking for a pre- or post-gallery meal, there's the gallery's own Scottish Cafe & Restaurant, or, further afield, there's Checkpoint in the Old Town. 

Fancying something lighter, I wander down to the Grassmarket and Mary's Milk Bar, which has a menu full of scrumptious treats. From the Grassmarket I climb the stairs of the Vennel for another amazing view of Edinburgh Castle.
