Snapchats | Woodman, Arbus and Mapplethorpe

This film documents the interpretation project that brought young people together to make photographs and discuss the themes of the ARTIST ROOMS Self Evidence | Photographs by Woodman, Arbus and Mapplethorpe exhibition, which took place at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in 2019.

In the film, they also share their thoughts on media pressure, social, sexual and gender restrictions, what photography means to them today, and whether ‘selfies’ are art.

We would like to thank the students from Forth Valley College (and their lecturer, Nicholas Gonzalez), Edinburgh College of Art ( University of Edinburgh) and the members of the National Youth Arts Advisory Group who took part in this project.
