Rembrandt: Ten Facts in Two Minutes

In summer 2018 we held our critically-acclaimed exhibition Rembrandt | Britain’s Discovery of the Master at the Royal Scottish Academy.

Rembrandt van Rijn is one of the most famous artists in the history of western art. His work is represented in every major museum collection in the world and is enormously popular. Britain has played a central role in the appreciation of Rembrandt’s work, and this was the focus of our exhibition.

Take two minutes to discover 10 facts you might not know about Rembrandt and his work, for example, did you know that Rembrandt painted over 90 self-portraits? He also sometimes slipped himself into his larger paintings as a spectator in the crowd.
