Scotland and India

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Indian independence we have made a survey of works in our collection that have an association with India. Over 1,500 artworks have been identified, from Pradip Malde’s contemporary image of the Deepak Mahal, Jodphur, to monuments from the 3rd - 2nd century B.C; paintings four metres high to silhouettes four inches high; bold modern patua (story paintings) and golden Indian miniatures; and historic photographs of men, women and children, who lived, travelled and worked in India. Here is a small selection of works that show the variety of these works in our collection.
