Biography

Born 1963
Nationality Scottish

Tracy Mackenna was born in Oban and studied sculpture at Glasgow School of Art from 1981-86. After living and working in Hungary she returned to Glasgow, where she co-founded the Glasgow Sculpture Studios. Mackenna’s work of the mid to late 1980s used everyday waste materials such as newspaper and cardboard, as well as scrap and manufactured metals like copper, zinc and steel. These were assembled into self-contained sculptural objects. Mackenna later progressed to producing installations, often using text on the wall and floor. Since 1997 she has been working collaboratively with the artist Edwin Janssen and no longer produces her own, individual work.
