Biography

Born in Glasgow, Philipsz lives and works in Berlin. She trained as a sculptor, and received her Undergraduate Degree from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee, in 1993, and her Master’s Degree from the University of Ulster, Belfast, in 1994. She has achieved international recognition, with major solo exhibitions of her work at museums and galleries around the world, as well as at the Venice and Istanbul Biennales, and as part of dOCUMENTA 13 in Kassel. In 2010 Philipsz won the Turner Prize; the first time the award had been presented to an artist working with sound.
