Internationally acclaimed French artist Parreno works in a variety of media, from ‘traditional’ drawing and sculpture, to more contemporary modes of expression such as performance and video. His work often includes, and evolves from, interesting and unusual collaborations with a variety of artists, filmmakers, scientists and curators. Primarily centring on the interrogation of the nature of an image, Parreno frequently re-uses existing material before manipulating it and incorporating his own ideas in an attempt to re-establish perceptions of reality. Parreno was born in Oran, Algeria, before studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Grenoble from 1983-8. He lives and works in Paris. Alongside his career as an artist he regularly writes for magazines.
