Harry Benson

Jackie Kennedy, London

About this artwork

Harry Benson has captured the First Lady, Jackie Kennedy, on a visit to London following her husband’s election as President of the United States in January 1961. Born in Southampton, New York, in 1929, Jackie was noted for her style and elegance. In this image she smiles widely whist waving her hand in a majestic fashion, complete with white glove and pearl necklace. Her beaming smile is framed within the car window and her white glove offers a sharp contrast to the dark exterior. J. F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963 whilst Jackie was sat beside him.
