Autoxylopyrocycloboros
About this artwork
This digital print derives from a project called Autoxylopyrocycloboros which involved Starling sailing a small customised steamboat on Loch Long. The boat had a wood-burning stove on board which powered the steam engine, and the journey was fuelled by feeding the boat piece by piece into flames until it sank. This digitally printed photograph of the journey has been partially burnt by Starling in reference to the process. Starling’s work is often based on journeys and the objects that help make them possible. Cove Park is focussed on the geography of the Clyde Estuary. A number of photographs documenting the trip were made into a limited edition set of giclée prints and individually altered through a burning process.
